When it comes to menopause, conversations are often either too clinical or too quiet. Dr. Jen Ashton, former chief medical correspondent for ABC News and board-certified OB-GYN, is on a mission to change that. In just 90 seconds, she breaks down menopause in a way that’s relatable, empowering and packed with actionable advice.
Whether you’re navigating hot flashes, brain fog, or just wondering what’s next, Ashton’s approach makes it clear: menopause isn’t the end of anything—it’s the beginning of understanding your body in a whole new way.
“First of all, I had every single symptom, head-to-toe in perimenopause. It was mild, thankfully, but guess what? Breaking news, I didn’t realize it was due to perimenopause, and I’m a board-certified OB-GYN,” Ashton tells Flow Space.
Ashton says the biggest symptom for her was extreme bitchiness, which she joked was first noticed by her children.
“I had everything from brain fog. I had sleep disturbance. I had weight gain. I had changes in my skin. I had irregular bleeding,” Ashton recalls.
Ashton says it wasn’t until after she was through perimenopause that she realized what her symptoms were.
“I think that really says it all. We’re too busy. We are too stoic. We don’t prioritize ourselves and so we go to the bottom of the list,” Ashton says. “Now, I know better.”
